| A jig (not the dance) is used to hold the tubes in their proper position during assembly in which they will later hang when attached to the hanger. The height of the jig is governed by the note (length) of the tube.
The tuning of each tube is based on the hanging point, which is found at the node of vibration in the pipe. The striking point is found at the anti-node, which is the center of the pipe. When the circle of pipes is assembled the longest and shortest will be together. They are exactly one octave apart and sound great if the striker hits both at the same time. Each set of chimes consists of 6 or 8 tubes. Chimes are tuned to Concerto, Sunrise, or Charka series all based on the minor pentatonic scale. Why tuned? The harmonies of the tuned titanium pipes counteract many of the noisy or annoying sounds of everyday life such as traffic, barking dogs, etc. |
